So, last night, I tried using my NLS EReader as a Braille display without any speech. And, um, does no screen reader have modifier keys set? I looked through (some) of the JAWS keyboard manager, and NVDA's documentation, and found no alt, Windows, Control, Insert... That's kinda strange. Anyway I'm sure I'm missing something.
@pixelate On NVDA look under settings Then I think keyboard commands or shortcuts and under braille there’s two different styles of control shift and alt it’s weird, it was incomplete last time I checked and if you need to alt tab more than once you’re kind of screwed as far as I know there used to be an extension called braille extender that stopped working on my work machine but also my work machine is infected with corporate malware so who knows if it’s still works
@pixelate Both Jaws and Narrator use almost identical keybinds with braille displays, they WILL use the layer command of +8space, so for example Win+I for settings is18space+24
@pixelate Now for F1-12 it is a bit different between the two. Jaws Alt+F4 is 248space+145, but on Narrator it's 28space+routing key 4
@pixelate I believe you'll have to set those up yourself in input jestures.
@pixelate @Blobsta @dhamlinmusic If you have the Humanware NLS eReader, there are default keys set you can find here: https://download.nvaccess.org/documentation/userGuide.html#HumanWareBrailliant
If you have the Zoomax NLS eReader, you initially had to get the driver from the NLS itself. We now have a pull request in the works which will bring support to NVDA directly -https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/15863
@NVAccess @Blobsta @dhamlinmusic Oh, thanks! I have the Humanware one, but I'll look again and see if I can find the modifiers.
@pixelate @Blobsta @dhamlinmusic I linked to that section of the user guide - that first table should apply to your device :)
@NVAccess @Blobsta @dhamlinmusic Sorry, I mean holding down the modifier key, like holding down Alt and pressing Tab a few times, then releasing Alt. Stuff like that.
@pixelate @Blobsta @dhamlinmusic Yep so that section of the user guide I linked to has all that... https://download.nvaccess.org/documentation/userGuide.html#HumanWareBrailliant
Alt on its own is space+dot1+dot3+dot4 (space+m)
Tab on its own is: space+dot4+dot6
Alt+tab is space+dot2+dot3+dot4+dot5 (space+t)
And there are a bunch of others listed. You can also customise any of them or add new mappings with input gestures.
