I’m wondering if the ‘no jab’ cane is any good… has anyone tried it?! I’ve never bought a cane as they have been provided by my Sight Loss Advisor but this seems like a good idea. Maybe it might encourage me to use one more often

@sarahmatthews Yes! My manager let me try his once and I loved it. I want one myself now.
@bright_helpings oh cool! I met someone from RNIB in December who showed it to me and he said that the journalist Sean Dilley uses one and raves about it so it got me curious. My balance is terrible so I wonder if it might make me a bit more confident
@sarahmatthews I must say for me it made a lot of difference, I wasn't expecting it to feel worth the price tag but it really does.
I'm amused to see that the shortest one there is 5cm longer than the one I use now which is already 5cm longer than the size I was originally given by the sensory team when I did my long cane training! Apparently this style is not for the short kings. ;)
@sarahmatthews After I wrote this, I went out in town and I noticed every crack and bump even more. ;) I should really get around to buying myself one of these...
@bright_helpings yes I bet! Have been looking into it more, and it is great that this cane was invented by a blind person
@sarahmatthews Oh that's cool! I shouldn't be surprised I suppose - this is a problem no one else would think about!
@bright_helpings @sarahmatthews I send you both the appropriate round tuits to get one of the shiny good canes. A shame that you have to pay for them and can't get them automatically thobut!
@NatalyaD @sarahmatthews I actually was meeting a colleague tonight who I know has one of these canes but it isn't the one she brought with her to Manchester and its terrible pavements! A choice she soon regretted. :)
@sarahmatthews I have one of these no jab canes. They are really good.
You bounce back every time you walk into something, it’s especially brilliant on uneven surfaces.
I have a curved spine so my shoulder and back hurt. With his new cain it reduces the impact I get on my shoulder which is wonderful.
@PhilippaB oh, that is so great to hear! I also have chronic pain issues (in my feet) so I’m wondering if I would be less wobbly and more confident with one of these
@sarahmatthews it is one of the best things I’ve bought. I’ve used it for round about a year.
I’d say give it a go. Plus the red hand is comfy. Let us know how you get on
