A request followed by a hashtag bomb. Can anyone recommend live folk music radio shows (world, Celtic, old-timey, Canadian, etc.)? I know about some prerecorded ones and about Folk Alley. The live ones I know about are Come by The Hills on Mushroom FM and Back Porch Music on WUNC. Any others? #Folkmusic #OldTimeyMusic #CelticMusic #Americana #Canadiana #BritishFolkMusic #AustralianFolkMusic #WorldFolkmusic #Acousticmusic #TradFolkMusic

Oh, drat; Mastodon doesn’t like names with @ in them. It wants to open them as Mastodon users. Ok, I found them, though; thank you!
Fun, quirky music! I like it!
@Pipistrelle it's not exactly a radio show, but my friends @onionhoney do a livestream every Sunday at 11am eastern time, with a mix of old-timey string band music, folk classics, and their own songs. On YouTube and FB. A really lovely weekend ritual in our house!
@anniebeeknits @onionhoney Oooh, that sounds nice. thank you.
@Pipistrelle @onionhoney You can find them at https://www.youtube.com/@onionhoneymusic -- I think tomorrow will be episode 145, which is almost 3 full years of weekly streams. They call it "banjo church" in a tongue-in-cheek, irreverent way.
@Pipistrelle And I should note that there's a link in the description to a google slides deck with all their lyrics and chords for those who want to sing or play along.
@anniebeeknits @onionhoney and I missed it. Alarm next time. LOL I’ll watch the video.
@anniebeeknits @onionhoney I made it! It was glorious. Friendly folks, and now i’m filled with the musical spirit! Will definitely be back.
@Pipistrelle @onionhoney Oh yay! I'm at my parents' and up to my elbows making marmalade -- the first session I've missed in ages, so I'm glad you were there to experience it.
@anniebeeknits @onionhoney I told them someone on Mastodon introduced me to Banjo church, and they said, “Thanks, Annie!” LOL
@Pipistrelle @onionhoney HAHAHAHA! They know me well.
@LilPecan Fantastic! Thank you!
@Pipistrelle You're welcome! I feel joy just knowing you get to discover this wonderful program for the very first time. Brian O'Donovan is a treasure and really knows his Celtic music.
@LilPecan Yes, love the music, so definitely looking forward to it!
@Pipistrelle I've not listened to it, so I don't know what it's like, but Black Jack Davy might be suitable for you.

@Pipistrelle over to you @AccordionBruce @accordionnoir :-)
@Pipistrelle @mzdt
Live musicians in the studio? We did that only occasionally
Right now @accordionnoir has been pre-recording because covid shut our community radio station’s studios
I may go back to live broadcasting at some point. The song mixing is much better when pre-recorded, and it may keep me from rambling on, but live has its merits
Live takes half the time to produce too!
Info on our broadcast/stream/podcast: http://AccordionNoir.org/
@AccordionBruce @mzdt @accordionnoir Thank you! No, i get it. I was just missing live shows, but I listen to prerecorded alll the time.
@Pipistrelle @mzdt @accordionnoir
The cutting off of live shows at the radio station was really damaging to the community part of #CommunityRadio
I’m fairly vulnerable to infection, so want to be quite careful, but am taking steps to make sure we’re taking reasonable air-quality measures most places could do to make it pretty safe
So we can make things better than they used to be, not just “back to normal”
Then we’ll see
I’ve been visiting my 80 year old parents, and hope they don’t get it
@Pipistrelle Let me know what you find! I'm a hard-core fan of music from the Maritimes. And Loreena McKennit, but I have all her CDs.
@Pipistrelle
Hill Billy Hoot on 3D radio, Adelaide, South Australia

@fourlarks3d This looks really great. I’m going to tune in tomorrow.
@Pipistrelle
Nice to hear, I hope that you enjoy it..!
@fourlarks3d Well, that was thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks for posting it.
@Pipistrelle
An absolute pleasure, I'm glad you enjoyed it...
I'll pass on feedback tomorrow when I'm in the radio station myself
@Pipistrelle the Lake Radio might be of interest, Danish Internet radio that covers a wide range of eclectic tastes, which no doubt include elements of folk/world, though not sure how easy it is to catch those specific things. Not listened to recently, but usually something curious on when I have done.

@Pipistrelle “Folk & Acoustic Music” with host, Michael Stock on WRLN-FM (Miami, Florida’s NPR affiliate).
Sunday afternoons from 2-5 Eastern time.
@Pipistrelle https://wumb.org is a radio station in Boston focused on folk music. #boston (added the http to the url)
@creckling Thank you! I thought I had listened to that before.
@Pipistrelle Might I recommend my station https://venom.fm/shows/folkin-about/
@objectinspace Wonderful; thank you!
@Pipistrelle Wisconsin Public radio has had a show on for years and years and years, called Simply Folk. I have no idea if it’s syndicated, but you could go check the website, it’s I believe Sunday nights.
@splott Thank you.
@Pipistrelle you’re welcome! It’s a wonderful wide variety and I’m glad I can share it!
@Pipistrelle @splott not all folk but Mountain Stage is primarily Americana. It's live from West Virginia Public Radio but can listen from their website. https://mountainstage.org/mountain-stage-radio/
@Pipistrelle'd recommend the bbc folks show - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01phglj and Folk on Foot - https://www.folkonfoot.com/episodes/chartshow for English, Scots & Irish folk...
@Pipistrelle also @folkradiouk is worth a follow.
