While I don't wish to go into specific details about my wife's situation, I'll start out by saying that she's in the hospital and there have been several hospitalizations in the past few years. One of the things that frustrates me is that it seems like most times I visit her has to turn into a disability awareness session as hospital staff seem completely unprepared when it comes to patients as well as visitors with disabilities. Last night, in my wife's room the chair by her bed was a bariatric chair; it was pretty big and wide. I didn't need anything quite so large but as it was the only chair available I took it. One of the nurses told me to be careful and was worried that I might fall out of the chair. If you guys could see this chair, it would be very clear that there's no way anyone could fall out of it. Falling into or onto it, maybe, but once you're in that chair you're not able to fall out of it. I politely told her that there was no way this could happen and that if she was saying these things because I'm blind she should know that blind people are not a fall risk.
Once I have the time and bandwidth I'd like to be more involved with education campaigns targeted to the medical community as they surely need it.
For those who are Jews or Christians, your prayers for me and for my wife are appreciated.
