Hey @Tamasg I heard about the new orbit players. Wonder whet TTS they're gonna use? My guess is probably acapela or vocalizer. Or maybe even just ESpeak.

Public

@mckensie I think Vocalizer - if it's using the same stuff as Orbit Speak, which is likely, they can probably use the same Vocalizer license they have there, but no knowing until it's released.

Public

@mckensie @Tamasg they can't use espeak because of the license.

Public

@patricus @mckensie @Tamasg they can't use Eloquence either, but people are hoping you can sideload.

Does a basic media player need an octa-core processor in 2025?
Will it be any less pricy than the competition?
People do die on the hill of their preferred audiobook player, I suppose.

Public

@cachondo @patricus @mckensie Well, octa-core may just help with feed processing mainly, if this has a podcast browser as well. My guess is it'll be something low-end like ARM-A53 or 55 based, not a high-end Arm-X1 core or like in flagship phones. I see they license runaTTS in their Orbit Speak though, which interestingly is the same licensee as used by Tifloteknia for their Vocalizer for NVDA product. Another thing that tells me Nuance charges out the butt for a license, so much so that these companies are just getting theirs from one common distribitor and paying them rights to use it.

Public

@Tamasg @cachondo @patricus @mckensie Can you sideload on the orbit speak? I would assume not.

Quiet public

@Tamasg I would say that AccessMind, LLC licensed Runa TTS Voices to Orbit Research before Tiflotecnia, Lda, probably because of their partnership for the Optima. @cachondo @patricus @mckensie

Quiet public

@twynn @Tamasg @patricus @mckensie I wonder if Orbit will allow you to set up piper or something? They're quite smooth at longer form stuff aren't they?
